In many instances, students who transfer to homeschooling, especially in their Junior or Senior years, do so in order to earn dual credits through their local college during high school.
Please be aware that, per the MDHSA Diploma Program policy, students MUST earn AT LEAST ONE home education credit during their high school years, using the criteria outlined in the Diploma Guide.
The home education credit may be in any subject, or combination of subjects, but it must be a homeschool credit, completed in the home with the home education supervisor (parent) teaching the course. Evidence of the coursework must be included in the student’s portfolio for the Evaluator to review at the end of the year. The Evaluator may then record home education course as “HS” on the MDHSA ASF/TX. An approved MDHSA Evaluator MUST BE USED to obtain an MDHSA diploma.
The portfolio should also include coursework for any college courses and credits for the Evaluator to review. Those courses and credits can then be recorded on the ASF/TX as “CC” courses. As a reminder, one 3-credit college course equals 1 credit on the MDHSA Transcript.
MDHSA will not award a diploma that does not contain at least one “HS” course/credit on the ASF/TX.
