Every year MDHSA receives requests for information about becoming an MDHSA Diploma Program evaluator. Therefore, we put together the following information to help you determine the qualifications, role and responsibilities of a Diploma Program evaluator. Let’s get started!
Why do PA homeschooled students need an evaluator?
According to the PA Home Education Law, PA homeschooled students are required to be interviewed by an evaluator each year. The student takes a portfolio of samples of the work he/she has done throughout the year to the evaluator, who then reviews the portfolio, interviews the student, and writes an evaluation certifying whether or not an appropriate education is occurring. The home education supervisor (parent) must then submit a copy of the written evaluation ONLY to the superintendent of the school district in which the family resides.
Evaluator Responsibilities
In order to evaluate homeschooled students, you should be familiar with the PA Home Education Law and what information and documentation it does and does NOT require of homeschooled students and/or their evaluators.
