{"id":1369,"date":"2021-03-01T03:40:29","date_gmt":"2021-03-01T03:40:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/masondixonhomeschoolers.org\/home\/?page_id=1369"},"modified":"2021-10-09T23:04:24","modified_gmt":"2021-10-09T23:04:24","slug":"1369-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/masondixonhomeschoolers.org\/home\/1369-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Become a PA Homeschool Evaluator: Evaluator Qualifications"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #4f074f;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-931\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/masondixonhomeschoolers.org\/dp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/amer-mughawish-_azI5djkQ_E-unsplash-300x134.jpg?resize=300%2C134&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" \/><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #333333;\">According to the PA Home Education Law, the following are qualified to be evaluators:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><b>1 &#8211; PA Teacher with Certification, whether current or not.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To evaluate portfolios at the elementary level (kindergarten through six), the teacher or administrator must have 2 years <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>*<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grading experience in any of the following subjects: English, to include spelling, reading and writing; arithmetic; science; geography; history of the United States and Pennsylvania; and civics<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To evaluate portfolios at the secondary level (grades seven through twelve) the teacher or administrator must have at least two years of experience in <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>*<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grading any of the following subjects: English, to include language, literature, speech, reading and composition; science, to include biology, chemistry and physics; geography; social studies, to include economics, civics, world history, history of the United States and Pennsylvania; foreign language; and mathematics, to include general mathematics, algebra, trigonometry, calculus and geometry.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><b>2 &#8211; Nonpublic Teacher<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\">Any nonpublic teacher or administrator shall have at least two years of teaching experience in a Pennsylvania public or nonpublic school within the last ten years. Such nonpublic teacher or administrator shall have the required experience at the elementary level to evaluate elementary students or at the secondary level to evaluate secondary students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><b>3 &#8211; Licensed Clinical Psychologist<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><b>4 &#8211; Certified School Psychologist<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>*<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> grading is defined as \u201cevaluation of class work, homework, quizzes, class work-based tests and prepared tests related to class work subject matter\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">IMPORTANT:<\/span> The PA Home Education Law states,<\/b><b><i> \u201cIn no event shall the evaluator be the supervisor or their spouse.\u201d <\/i><\/b><b>In other words, parents cannot evaluate their own children.<\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another provision in the law states, <\/span><b>\u201c<\/b>At the request of the supervisor, persons with other qualifications may conduct the evaluation with the prior consent of the district of residence superintendent.\u201d If this is an option you wish to read further about, please click<span style=\"color: #333399;\"> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/masondixonhomeschoolers.org\/home\/become-an-evaluator-other-qualifications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">here<\/span><\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Evaluators are also needed to pre-approve objectives for students with IEPs. If you are interested in providing this service, please click <a href=\"https:\/\/masondixonhomeschoolers.org\/home\/become-a-pa-homeschool-evaluator-special-needs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>here<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>to find out if you are qualified to pre-approve objectives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Once you have ascertained you meet the requirements to be a PA evaluator, you can begin to evaluate students.
