Become a PA Homeschool Evaluator: Special Needs

If a homeschool student has been identified as needing special education services, in other words, the student has an Individualized Educational Program (IEP), the supervisor (parent) must obtain a letter from a qualified person stating that his/her Objectives meet the educational needs of the child. Evaluators qualified to provide an approval letter are:

  • PA certified special education teachers whether or not the teaching certificate is active
  • Licensed clinical psychologists
  • Certified school psychologists

The approval letter should be in standard business format, signed by the Evaluator, and include the following or similar language:
“I have reviewed the Objectives for the student, <child’s name>, and these Objectives meet the specific educational needs of this student.”

NOTE:  Any evaluator may evaluate a student who has an IEP, but only those evaluators listed above are qualified to pre-approve objectives for a student with an IEP.
